Supporting you with new prescriptions
The New Medicine Service Explained
Starting a new medication can raise a lot of questions. The NHS New Medicine Service (NMS) gives you free, structured support from our pharmacists during the first few weeks of a new prescription, so you feel confident in your treatment.
How the New Medicine Service Works
- Speak to our pharmacist when you collect your new prescription
- Book a follow up consultation around 7 to 14 days later
- Discuss how you are getting on, side effects and any questions
- Final review at around 28 days to confirm everything is working well
- Onward referral to your GP if your treatment needs adjusting
Conditions This Service Supports
- Asthma and COPD
- Type 2 diabetes
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Blood thinning treatments
