New Medicine Service: How We Support You

    June 28, 2025·1 min read

What Is the New Medicine Service?

The New Medicine Service (NMS) is a free NHS service designed to help people who have been prescribed a new medicine for a long-term condition. At Ringmer Pharmacy, we provide personalised support to help you understand and manage your medication.

The service involves a series of consultations with your pharmacist over the first few weeks of starting a new medicine, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and raise any concerns.

    How It Works

When you are prescribed a new medicine for conditions such as high blood pressure, asthma, type 2 diabetes, or anticoagulant therapy, your pharmacist will arrange follow-up consultations to check how you are getting on.

These consultations can take place in person at the pharmacy or over the phone, whichever is more convenient for you. We will discuss any side effects, answer your questions, and make sure you are getting the most from your treatment.

    Why It Matters

Research shows that many people stop taking their prescribed medicines within the first few weeks, often due to side effects or uncertainty about whether the medicine is working. The NMS helps address these concerns early.

If you have recently been prescribed a new medicine and would like support, speak to our team at Ringmer Pharmacy. We are here to help you every step of the way.
